This wide sunny valley situated in the Swiss Alps lies in an
East-Westerly direction between Montreux and Interlaken. It is only a 1
hour drive from the Lake of Geneva. The region is 1000 – 2000 meters
above sea level. The valley includes villages such as Chateau-d'Oex
and Rougemont where the mother language is French and Saanen, Gstaad,
Schoenried and Saanenmoeser
where Swiss-German is spoken. However many people speak
English as well. The region has made it a point to preserve its
traditional, picturesque style while incorporating a modern
infrastructure.
The
beautiful alpine area offers regular, typical and 5-star hotels and
restaurants of the finest. There are also luxurious shops as well as
some excellent international schools. The
village of Gstaad is an internationally-renowned winter/summer resort.
There is a wide range of activities such as The Summer Music Festival
started by Sir Yehudi Menuhin, The Polo Silver Cup, The Country Night,
The Rado Swiss Open Tennis, FIVB Beach Volley World Tour. For the more sporty there are superb summer
walks , an 18 hole golf course and a multitude of ski
slopes to chose from in Winter and even the Glacier. Despite all of
these attractions the major assets of this region are simply the
security and the spectacular beauty of nature !
